You can think of dental crowns as protective cosmetic caps that go over your teeth. We use often use them  for missing teeth or to cover a broken tooth.

However there are several different kinds of dental crowns as you will find out here.

When would you consider a dental crown?

Dental crowns are used for cosmetic dentistry situations - when you mainly want a better smile - as well as restorative dentistry. For example a dental crown might be used to:

  • Save a broken tooth
  • Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
  • Attach to a dental implant
  • Protect a weakening tooth at risk of breaking
  • Hide a dark tooth
  • Replace a large filling when there isn't enough tooth around it
